Abstract:The method of characteristics is applied to study the hydraulic characteristics of South-to-North water diversion middle route project in Tianjin. The mathematical model of complex boundary conditions is set up. The impacts of the unsteady flow caused by the varying flow rate on the hydraulic characteristics of open-channel flow, the surge tank and the pipe flow and the varying flow rate of the culvert caused by them are analyzed, thus providing academic guidance for the design and operation of the project.
