Electric-arc cleaning of optical-fiber endfaces |

| Abstract: | The cleaning action of the cleaning arc of two optical-fiber fusion-splicing devices is investigated. Interferometric analysis of the optical-fiber endfaces before and after exposure to the cleaning arcs reveals damage to the endfaces caused by one of the devices. The position of the fiber relative to the cleaning arc is thought to cause this damage. |
