| Abstract: | Peter Newmark is a very famous English translation theorist, who classifies the source language(SL) texts into those of the expressive function, informative function and vocative function. In addition, he supplies a series of translation methods, which make the process of translation more concrete and thus more operable. The article intends to introduce Newmark's classification into the actual practice of translation in English Chinese(E C) and Chinese English(C E) translation. It is an illustration of the validity of his theory and translation methods, hoping that it will provoke further pondering of the translation criteria long adopted in the translation circle of China. |
