毛姆短篇小说的后殖民主义解读

本文试图从后殖民主义角度来解读毛姆的南洋小说。在文本细读的基础上,分别从传教士与土著、殖民官员与土著、白人与土著女子的爱情3个方面入手,剖析了自称来自＂优等民族＂的殖民者如何误解甚至蔑视土著文明,从而伤害彼此的情感。文章指出,只有消除偏见,加强沟通,尊重包容彼此的文化,来自不同文化的人才有可能共生共荣。

Analysis of Maugham' s Short Stories from Post-colonialism Perspective

The present paper attempts to explore W.S.Maugham’s short stories from the perspective of Said’s post-colonialism theory.Based on a thorough perusal of the texts,the paper makes a detailed analysis of the misunderstanding and conflicts between the natives and the colonizers—the missionaries,officials,and other whites,which inflict tremendous physical and emotional damage on both sides.The paper further argues that only on the basis of mutual respect and understanding,can people from different cultures live together in harmony.
