Abstract: | Summary Tests conducted on a pilot-plant scale have demonstrated that linoleic acid of about 95% purity may be produced from safflower fatty acids containing about 75% linoleic acid, by a liquid-liquid extraction process. Furfural was employed as the selective solvent, hexane as a secondary solvent, and the fractionation was made in a Podbielniak “double-pup” centrifugal extractor. Best results were obtained when the proc This is a laboratory of the Northern Utilization Research and Development Division, Agricultural Research Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture. |
