| Abstract: | Influence of radioactive deterioration by fast neutrons on stress corrosion cracking of chromium-nickel steels Neutron irradiation has a bearing on the mechanical properties of the pure and industrial steels investigated. The creep limit is increased while the range of uniform elongation is reduced. Under an integral fast neutron flux of about 2.5.1019 n/cm2 there is a defined yield strength increasing the stress corrosion susceptibility and there are indications of intercrystalline cracking in some cases. The industrial alloy has exclusively transcrystalline cracks een after neutron irradiation; the crack density is higher than in the pure alloy. |
