Abstract: | Refractory metals and alloys. The application of refractory metals such as niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, chromium and rhenium at high temperatures is discussed on the basis of a compilation of their physical, chemical and technological properties. The present state of knowledge in this field indicates, that the high temperature strength needed can be obtained with some of the refractory alloys also at temperatures much higher than 1000°C. However, at present, the oxydation resistance has not yet been improved far enough to allow the use of these materials in air. |
