Abstract:
Within the domain of design methodology, symbolic modelling exists as a means of organizing a design effort. Further, the use of symbolic modelling in engineering design leads to a proper demarcation between design and analysis. This use of symbolic modelling is illustrated through examples in normative and simulation modelling. The separation of modelling and analysis is shown to be an important principle in quality of design.
