Abstract: | Owing to its implications with respect to a critical examination of the SIMP and ESO methods in a Forum Article, extended optimality in topology optimization is revisited, with a view to clarifying certain issues and to illustrate this concept with a case study. It is concluded that extended optimality can result in a much lower structural volume than traditional optimality. |
