模数式图书馆之演变

文章综合研究了国外模数式图书馆的产生、发展与回归后，认为目前方兴未艾的模数式图书馆已经向开放化、多元化的方向发展。当代图书馆建筑除继续吸收模数式的设计思想原则外，应更多研究与关注人文化的设计原则。这种发展趋势是值得我国图书馆建设借鉴的。

Evolution of Modular Libraries

Modular libraries originated in the western developed countries in 1950's. They presented a lot of new design methods that were completely different from those of western traditional libraries. Gradually these new design methods came into being as a modular design system. Modular libraries also represent the main trend of modern libraries. Through the research of modular libraries, we expound several aspects of the design of modern libraries.This essay presents a theoretical as well as practical overview of foreign modular libraries by probing into their historical background, early exploration, origin, development, regression and contemporary improvement.It also points out that the modular design system has experienced a process of originating, developing and selfperfecting. Being in the ascendant, modular libraries are getting more and more open and diversified. They become much more combined with the accomplishment of high technology and electronic techn0logy. In spite of absorbing and developing the spirit of the modular system, designers have also paid more attention to human spirit.After making a brief outline of the developing history of foreign libraries, this essay expounds how to develop modern libraries in China by combining the design method of modu1ar libraries abroad with China's conditions.There are two main trends in the design of native libraries. One of them mainly focuses on the buiIding's objective functions. It emphasizes the introduction of the modular design system of foreign libraries. The other trend focuses on the spiritual functions. It pays more attention to the native, regional and environmental factors.It accents the spiritual demand of readers. This is the inevitable tendency of modern libraries. There exists a contradiction between objective and spiritual functions. We should learn from experiences of foreign modern libraries. At the same time we should coordinate these two trends in the design of our native libraries. Although there still exists a big gap between the economic standard of the developed countries and that of China, we can draw lessions from the design method of foreign countries. We can combine foreign country's experiences with China's native conditions and then create modern libraries characteristic of their own.At the end this essay, we have summarized some main aspects of the design of modernized libraries that suit to China's conditions.
