Abstract:Frequent loading & unloading by harbour cranes make the corresponding cables often move at high speed, withstanding large pulling and bending stresses. Under these harsh service conditions, the traditional cables will fail after half year' s service. The authors analyzed the technical requirements, construction design and selection of materials of the trailing cables for harbour cranes on the basis of the cable service conditions and related data at home and abroad and developed successfully a new type of trailing cables for harbour cranes. Testing by the National Quality Supervision and Testing Centre for Electric Wires and Cables demonstrated that the new type of cables meet or exceed the requirements of related Chinese and foreign standards hence are suitable for harbour crane use.
