Abstract:Tested formulations containing blood protein and copper(II) sulfate compounds were subjected to the accelerated leaching test. The tests were performed according to EN 84 as well as by means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Wood samples obtained from pine sapwood (Pinus sylvestris L.) were treated with selected formulations. The treated samples were then subjected to leaching with a simultaneous analysis of the active component (Cu(II) ion) contained in the water extracts. The potential large-scale opportunities for the application of animal blood proteins investigated in this study are: fixation of the CuSO4 to the wood matrix through the protein denaturation and utilisation of the blood protein in industrial timber preservation.
