Analysis and Prediction of 5G-NR System Function Evolution Trends

The well standardized specifications of 3GPP Rel-15 have laid basic foundations for 5G-NR system features/functions and its deployment ways,and they mainly realized the eMBB and URLLC relevant services and applications.As proceeding,the Rel-16 further introduced various enhancement against Rel-15 feature set for eMBB and URLLC.The Rel-17 aims to further develop new system features/functions for more potential vertical business domains,and to achieve better refinement from Rel-15/16 feature set,more approaching the scope of“full spectrum,ubiquitous coverage,all services”.The Rel-17 system features/functions and their trends can also be analyzed to foresee some aspects of 6G in near future.This paper made comprehensive analysis about the latest emerging Rel-17 system features/functions,and grouped them into three main categories,namely:UE/Chip camp,NW Vendor camp and Mobile Operator camp.Each camp actually has its own and different interest/value concerns and preferences regarding each system feature/function from huge set.Based on the paper’s analysis and hinted rules,reader can get better understanding and judgement about the evolution trend of cellular systems in future.
