Abstract: | The intensive use of railroad rails in Russia has drawn attention to the quality of the metal used in the transport industry. The Ministry of Railroads (MPS) has tightened standards for rails with respect to the absence of internal and surface defects, length, and the accuracy of the geometric dimensions. Railroads now have choices in regard to the rails they use, given the broad market for these products. They can now purchase not only Russian rails, but also rails made abroad (preferring the latter for several reasons). |
