Hot Forging Characteristics of Fine-Grained ZrO2 and Al2O3/ZrO2 Ceramics

Preliminary results indicate that large strains (∼80%) and strain rates (0.001 s⁻¹) can be obtained without tearing (or cracking) in fine-grain ZrO₂ (0.3 μm) and Al₂O₃/ZrO₂ (1 μm) ceramics. Alumina develops crystallographic and morphological texture as previously reported by Heuer et al.¹
