Application and Development of Bio-based Binder in Wet-laid Glass Mat

Urea formaldehyde,phenol formaldehyde and phenol urea formaldehyde have been traditionally used as binders in fiberglass insulation. However,formaldehyde has been classified as a known human carcinogen by the In-ternational Agency for Research on Cancer. Thus,environment-friendly bio-based binders have emerged to replace traditional resin binders. The developments and applications of environment-friendly bio-based binders are reviewed in this paper,with the highlights on the application of novel bio-based binder compositions in the field of wet-laid fi-berglass mats. The future development of bio-based binders is forecasted as well.
