| Abstract: | This paper discusses the characteristic features of geoinformation systems (GISs) that make them different from other types of information systems. The components, functions, and application areas of GISs are considered, and GIS software solutions are described in detail. Application of GISs in different fields is demonstrated with particular examples. |
