Abstract: | The absorption and luminescence spectra of color centers in sulfur-doped silica glass are investigated. It is demonstrated that the most intense bands of absorption at 280 nm and luminescence at 385 nm have a resolved vibrational structure. These bands are assigned to interstitial molecules S2, which are weakly bound to the glass network. The proposed model provides a simple interpretation of the shift observed for the luminescence excitation band with respect to the corresponding absorption band. |
