This paper gives a presentation of the State Electric Power Grid Corporation and the operation mechanism of theelectric power market in the United kingdom. Since privaization of the electric power industry in the United kingdom in Mareh, 1990 the electric power grids have been under commreialized operation in Englan and Welsh. In this comnpetitive electric power market the power plants sell their generated electricity to the power grids on compeitive basis bymaking an offer one day in advance, and each dispatch day has 48 time intervals for settling accounts. The tariff ofelectricity purehased by the powr grid from the power plant consists of the eneng charge determined based on the system'smarginal price and the capacity charge determined according to probability and value of losing load. The selling tariff ofthe power grid consists of the purchase tariff and the surcharges.
