Analysis of the Existing Problems of the CO2 Compressor for the Coal-to-Methanol Unit of Shell Gasification Plant and Their Improvement

The design and operation status of the CO2 compressor for the coal-to-methanol unit of the Shell pulverized coal gasification plant was introduced. Some suggestions were given on the remedy of the problems that occurred during operation, e.g. excessive vibration of the auxiliary set of the CO2 compressor and the connecting piping, easily worn out of the supporting ring of the secondary cylinder, rupture of the lock-nut of the piston rod, etc. Achieving good result, the aforementioned measures facilitated long-term operation of the unit.
