Abstract:In this paper a diagnostic system for measuring strain in FRP composite materials by using artificial neural networks is proposed. In particular the strain response of specimens of glass or carbon fibres arranged in epoxy resin matrix subjected to mechanical and thermal loads is analysed. The experimental results are compared with those obtained analytically and the advantages of using this neural diagnostic system, as compared to the use of the traditional system of temperature compensation, are given.
