Accuracy of recall by hypnotically age-regressed subjects.
Authors:Nash, Michael R.   Drake, Stephen D.   Wiley, Stephen   Khalsa, Sahib   Lynn, Steven J.
Abstract:Investigated the accuracy of the factual recall of highly hypnotically susceptible undergraduates both during and after the hypnotic procedure. Third-party verification (parent report) of the accuracy of recall was obtained for 2 S groups: 14 hypnotized Ss and 10 postsimulation control Ss. Results indicate that, despite the similarity to children in their way of relating to transitional objects, hypnotic Ss were significantly less able than control Ss to correctly identify the specific transitional objects actually used. Furthermore, all recollections obtained during hypnosis were incorporated into posthypnotic recollections, regardless of accuracy. Clinical implications are discussed.
