Applications of approximate string matching to 2D shape recognition

Abstract:A new method for the recognition of arbitrary two-dimensional (2D) shapes is described. It is based on string edit distance computation. The recognition method is invariant under translation, rotation, scaling and partial occlusion. A set of experiments are described demonstrating the robustness and reliability of the proposed approach.
