Abstract: | The rate at which soda-lime glass absorbed oxygen increased with the addition of arsenious oxide to the batch; the absorption rate increased further when sodium nitrate was substituted for part of the sodium carbonate in the batch. There was little difference, however, between the rate of absorption in melts in a gas furnace and melts in an electric furnace. The rate of absorption increased in all cases as the temperature increased in the range 1065° to 1280°C. |
