| Abstract: | The specimens with natrual sharp cracks are important for measuring the fracture toughness of structural ceramics, but precracks of ceramics is a tough problem. In this paper, experimental researches and stress analysis were performed to investigate the precrack technique of ceramics, and the advantage as well as disadvantage were discussed. A new method, chevron-notch-induced precracking method, was advanced. This method is convenient to introduce a straight-through precrack into ceramic specimens. It provides a effective means to evaluate accurately the fracture toughness of ceramic materials. |
