Closure of a Longitudinal Crack in a Shallow Cylindrical Shell in Bending

We study the two-dimensional problem of contact interaction of the lips of a longitudinal crack in a cylindrical shell subjected to bending under the assumption of contact along a line. The influence of the surface curvature and crack closure on the stressed state and limiting equilibrium of the shell is analyzed.
