Abstract:
The treatment of Ca3SiO5, β-Ca2SiO4, Ca3Al2O6 and Ca12Al14O33 low water/solids ratio compacted pastes with carbon dioxide immediately after preparation resulted in a rapid strength development of the calcium silicates and a negligible strength development of the calcium aluminates. The strength gain after 5 minutes of carbon dioxide treatment was over 3000 psi for both the Ca3SiO5 and β-Ca2SiO4 pastes. There was no apparent difference between the rate of reaction of the Ca3SiO5 and β-Ca2SiO4 pastes as based on strength gain characteristics.
