网络性是城市燃气输配管网作为自然垄断行业的基本特点，而麦特卡夫定律是关于网络的定律，文章试图对二者的关系进行探讨。通过对燃气输配管网与信息网络的共性分析，得出麦特卡夫定律对燃气管网同样适用；通过对燃气输配管网与信息网络的相异性分析，得出麦特卡夫定律对燃气输配管网的适应要做一些修正。麦特卡夫定律揭示了燃气管网发展的基本规律，揭示了燃气管网的真正价值，因而，该定律对燃气输配管网具有重要意义。

Metcalfe's Law and Urban Gas Transmission and Distribution Network

This paper tries to explore the relation between urban gas transmission and distribution network and Metcalfe＇s Law because network performance is the basic characteristic of the urban gas transmission and distribution network, while Metcalfe＇s Law is a law about networks. Through analyzing the commonness and the dissimilarity between urban gas network and information system, conclusions can be obtained that Metcalfe＇s Law can be applied to urban gas network after some modification, which shows that this law is very important to the development to urban gas networks.
