Abstract: | A continuous process for converting copper mattes to blister copper is discussed. The thermodynamics of the converter reactions are analyzed on the basis of their free enthalpies, and it is concluded that the three layers formed in the converter—converter slag, white matte, and blister copper—make possible the continuous converting of mattes. The results of three years of experimental operation of a continuous converter at the Technical University at Kosice, Czechoslovakia, are reported. |
