The importance of irrigation and drainage for flue cured tobacco was discussed, and the rule of water requirement of flue cured tobacco was introduced. Under normal conditions, proper watering was a must while transplanting, water supply should be controlled, generally no watering was needed, within 20-30 days after transplanting, 2 or 3 times of irrigation should be conducted from 30 days after transplanting to budding, and once in 10-15 days after topping. Different irrigation methods could be used, the hole irrigation was suitable to water deficient areas, furrow irrigation was suitable to district where there was plenty of water supply and spray irrigation was good for rich tobacco growing areas. In addition, drainage of tobacco field was vital to rainy regions.
