Abstract:The char yield of a new ablative resin, polyarylacetylene(PAA) and the formation of the carbon cloth reinforced composites(2D C/PAA) were investigated. The mechanical and ablative properties of the composites were characterized.The results showed that the char yield of PAA resin was higher than that of phenolic resin.The ablative performance of 2D C/PAA composites was so good that the O 2-C 2-H 2 erosion was only 0.004mm/s,whereas the mechanical properties of the composites were poor with a interlaminar shear strength of merely 5.8MPa.
