Abstract: | Activation of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae PHO5 gene is accompanied by the disruption of four positioned nucleosomes at the promoter. The chromatin transition requires a DNA-binding protein, Pho4, and its transactivation domain. The mechanism of nucleosome disruption and the contribution of the nucleosomes to PHO5 regulation are reviewed. |
