Production and Demand of Hyaluronic Acid and Its Market Analysis

The properties, production methods, applications and market status of hyaluronic acid (HA) are reviewed. Recently HA is one of the focusing biochemical products, and it has been widely applied in fields of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and health protection food because of its characteristics in water-holding, lubricant function and biocompatibility. At present, the annual production capacity of HA is 20 tons in the world, in 2006 there are eight HA producers in China based on fermentation method with annual output of 8 tons, about forty percents of the product are exported to the U. S. and Japan.
