Abstract: | The coarsening kinetics of the tetragonal phase in a magnesia-partiallystabilized zirconia at 1420°C was examined using transmission electron microscopy and found to be controlled by volume diffusion. The rate constant was larger and the particle-size distribution was broader than predicted by the Lifshitz–Slyozov–Wagner theory of particle coarsening. A volume fraction modified coarsenng theory was found which better fits the experimental rate constant and particle-size distribution. |
