Experimental Study on Filtration Properties of Geotextile Filter in Tailings Dams

Geotextile as filter layer has been widely used in tailings dam drainage facilities.However,due to complex working conditions,geotextile are often blocked,resulting in insufficient drainage capacity and seriously affecting the safety of tailings dams.In order to further understand the filtration characteristics of geotextile filter layer in tailings dams,a series of gradient ratio tests were performed on nonwoven geotextiles and woven geotextiles with different pore size through advanced gradient ratio test device,and their soil retention,anti-clogging capability and water permeability were compared and analyzed.The results show that the bigger the pore size of the geotextile,the smaller the gradient ratio of the system under the premise of soil retention.In the long-term test,the silting of woven geotextiles is more likely than that of non-woven geotextiles.Therefore,in tailings engineering,the woven geotextile can be used as a short-term drainage filter layer,and it is not recommended to be used as a long-term drainage filter layer.
