Abstract: | A fiber-optic polarization modulator based on a piezoelectric ceramic transducer is considered. The device employs the phenomenon
of photoelasticity, whereby the polarization of light in the fiber is modulated due to the birefringence variations induced
by oscillating transverse pressure applied to the fiber. An analytical expression for the modulation efficiency is obtained.
A high efficiency of the proposed modulator is confirmed by experimental data. |
