Pass features and pass design steps for 3-roll mandrel pipe mill are analyzed. A pass design software for 3-roll mandrel pipe mill is developed by using Lazarus. This pass design software can quickly verify the pass parameters, make parametric drawings of the pass profile and the metal profile, analyze the production situations according to the coordinates of metal-tool seperating points, and guide the production. Lazarus is a convenient and quick tool for pass design and has good universality and high precision. Calculations can be done for different types of 3-roll mandrel pipe mills and various field conditions. The pass design parameters as well as the production and quality information can be stored in a database to serve as basics for designing new passes.
