Failure diagnosis and design improvement of cross-axle universal joint

The cross-axle universal joints are commonly used basic mechanical parts suitable for the connection of two axually deviated shafts with frequently and usually changing relative positions. They have the advantages of large transmitted torque and compacted structure, and are widely used in power trains of construction machines, automobiles and tractors. According to their common operation condition, that is frequent subjection to impact and vibration, this paper analyzes the damage behaviours and causes of failure and offers a concept of design improvement.
