The Impact of Integrated Circuit Technology on the Advance of Communications

The paper begins with briefly mentioning the discovery of transistor and laser,and the continuous rapid development of microelectronic integrated circuits,optoelectronic integration circuits and photonic integrated circuits. Then,it describes several important applications of information technology ; (1 ) processor, memory, computer ; (2 )magnetic disk, optical disk, mass storage; (3 ) program-controlled electronic switching system ; (4)optical fiber fixed communication network and wireless mobile communication network. It concludes that all these technologies and developments have been deeply affected by the integrated-circuit technology,so that they are able to advance with the fastest speed.
