Abstract:The principle and arrangement of the apparatus using laser flash method for measuring thermal conductivity of thermoelectric materials are described. The efforts are concentrated on the problems introduced when using this method to measure the materials with very low thermal conductivity. It is illustrated that the errors of measuring low thermal conductivity materials using thermocouples as temperature sensor could be very significant, even though the apparatus has been well calibrated using Armco Iron (a widely accepted standard sample for calibration). The methods to reduce these errors are also discussed in the paper.
