Abstract: | AbstractA pyrometallurgical process has been developed for recovering 75% to 90% of the nickel from nickeliferous pyrrhotite in a concentrate containing 4 to 7%-Ni. It consists of agglomerating the pyrrhotite with additives, heat treating the agglomerates at about 900°C, and then cooling followed by grinding and magnetic separation. A bout 93% of the sulphur in the feed pyrrhotite remains in the non-magnetic fraction as FeS. This can be disposed of or used for the production of iron oxide or iron and sulphuric acid. |
