On the optimization of civil engineering

In this paper the following problems are discussed: the soft science character of civil engineering ;the rational treatment of uncertain information in the engineering design; the consideration of the multiobjec-tives of optimazation in different engineering stages;the choice of generalized reliability as the control parameter in the engineering optimazation; the logic relation and failure dependence between the structures in an engineering system; the global optimazation of large-scale engineering system; the uncertain optimum design of structures ; the optimazation of the construction procedure of the engineering system; the structural construction mechanics; the optimazation of the structural control and maintenance.
