Frictional behaviour of molybdenum disulphide in high vacuum — Part II

Abstract:The coefficient of friction and the stop time effect of molybdenum disulphide in high vacuum were investigated. It was found that three kinds of stop time effect exist. For the explanation of the variation in the coefficient of friction during run-in after various periods of standing, the concentration of diffused contaminants under the surface was investigated and the variation in the coefficient of friction was determined by a solution of Fick's law. It was found that the experimental results correlated with theory.
