基于垂直投影的车牌字符分割方法

车牌的字符分割是车牌识别系统中的重要环节,通过车牌字符的垂直投影可以对字符进行分割,所以可应用于分割车牌图像中的字符。首先对车牌进行图像预处理,提取出车牌的灰度图像;然后根据垂直投影法确定字符边界以及车牌字符的7个投影块;最后结合实际车牌情况,提出了对粘连和断裂字符的处理方法。实验结果表明,该算法能有效的分割出车牌图像中的字符。

An Algorithm of Characters Segmentation based on Vertical Projection for License Plate

The segmentation of characters on the license plate is an important part for recognizing license plate system,and by vertical projection of these characters,the characters on the license plate could be segmented.So this algorithm could be used to segment the characters in the plate image.First,the image is preprocessed,thus to get gray images of the license plate,then according to the method of vertical projection,the ranges of the segmented characters and the seven segments of vertical projection are defined,and finally according to the actual situations of the license plate,the way for dealing with the adhered or fractured characters is suggested.Experiments show that this algorithm could effectively segment the characters on the license plate.
