Abstract:Scanning Auger Microprobe(SAM)and the metallographic method have been used to study the nature of bright lines and spots on fracture surfaces of electroslag remelted 35CrNi3MoV steel and the mechanism of their formation.Results show that they are caused by the segregation of Hf,N and S and the precipitation of HfN in the interdendritic regions,which are thus embrittled.When cracks propagate along bainite strips in the interdendritic regions,some may cause the formation of bright lines,and some of bright spots if they propagate across.Bright lines and spots deteriorate the mechanical properties of steel markedly.The key to avoid such defects in electroslag remelted steel is to increase the purity of slag materials.
