| Abstract: | The role of Arias-Stella reaction in diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy in a 35-year old woman who used a contraceptive coil in situ is described. The patient was seen with continuous uterine bleeding of almost 1 month duration. Histological examination of the curettage specimen showed multilayer endometrial epithelial cells with pyknotic apical nuclei and inflammatory infiltration of the stroma. These finding, trophoblastic growth and the absence of the chorion were indicative of the ectopic pregnancy. The patient was subjected to supravaginal hysterectomy. Examination of the surgery specimen confirmed diagnosis of tubal pregnancy. |
