Abstract: | Batch distillation is an efficient unit operation which allows the separation of a multicomponent mixture into its pure constituents in a single column. However, the separation of azeotropic mixtures by distillation is quite difficult because at the azeotrope the liquid and the gas have the same composition and, in turn, the driving force for distillation disappears. A systematic presentation of batch distillation processes for the separation of binary azeotropic mixtures using an entrainer is given. |
