Abstract: | By participating in the broadcast media as consultants, expert interviewees, interviewers, and producer/reporters can increase the public's understanding of human behavior and gain support and awareness of psychologists' unique contributions. Psychology's theoretical constructs and research tools are resources that can be publicized now by appropriate use of the electronic media. The social relevance of psychology is its capacity to guide the public toward an understanding of cultural values and assumptions, personal actions, habits, and options to maximize psychosocial competence and give people information they can use in everyday life. Recommendations for preparing TV news material are presented. (31 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) |
