该项目旨在将城市多余的工业港口设施改造成世界级的多功能城市社区，以吸引当地居民、各地的商人及游客。该项目建设了新的港口滨水区，将水域与城市连接起来，为这片具有重要历史意义的城市废墟注入新的活力。这些任务极具挑战性。在设计上，整个项目将由一系列层级区域组成，随着不断的发展建设，每个区域都将扮演不同的角色。第一层级区域是整个项目的基础，依照总体规划中提出的重要原则及发展战略，为后续层级的建设打好基础。这一阶段的开发体现了达尔文市深厚的文化底蕴，并结合当地的海角地形，重新种植自然植被，展现当地生态环境及城区的历史用途。

Darwin Waterfront Public Domain

The vision for the Darwin Waterfront project was to transform the city＇s redundant industrial port facility into a world class, mixed- use urban community attracting local residents, business travel- lers and tourists. Creating a new harbour front precinct linking the water to the city and revitalising a derelict but historically important part of Darwin was the challenge for the new development. Designed as a series of staged precincts, each will provide a defined identity as they are developed. This first precinct is fundamental in setting the precedent for the future stages. It implements many of the critical principles and strategies that were proposed in the master plan. The develop- ment reflects Darwin＇s strong cultural heritage, incorporating the site＇s historic headland landforms, re-establishing natural vegeta-tion, and acknowledging indigenous associations and past uses. The public domain is designed around structured and identifi- able public spaces. It is predominantly contained by residential buildings, the apartment hotel and the Darwin Convention and Exhibition Centre. The swimming beach and the interactive wave lagoon are the heart of Darwin Waterfront. It is the space people descend to from the escarpment and the place where people congregate for beachside activities and cultural events.
