Abstract:Lithium manganese oxides have generated great interest as insertion cathodes (positive electrodes) for rechargeable lithium batteries, due to their high energy density, low cost, and low toxicity. While earlier studies focused on LiMn 2O 4 spinel, but to date, the Jahn Teller effect and manganese dissolution in liquid electrolyte for LiMn 2O 4 cathodes during cycling have not been solved thoroughly. Recently years, the layered structure LiMnO 2 have gained increasing attention due to their higher realizable energy density. This paper reviewed the last studied results concerning the LiMnO 2 cathodes in recent years, induced the main methods of synthesizing layered structure LiMnO 2, commented on it's structure and electrochemical properties.
